According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
In 2019, African Americans were 30% more likely to die from HEART DISEASE than non-Hispanic whites.
Percent of men aged 20 and over with HYPERTENSION=56.8% (2015-2018)
Percent of women aged 20 and over with HYPERTENSION= 57.6% (2015-2018)
African American women have the highest rates of OBESITY compared to other groups in the United States.
About 4 out of 5 African American women are overweight or obese.
According to the American Cancer Society:
“Black women continue to have 4% lower breast cancer incidence than White women, but 41% higher mortality rate reflecting later stage of diagnosis...” Breast cancer surpassed lung cancer in 2019, to become the leading cause of cancer death among Black women. Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer death among Black men.” - Wiley CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians (January/February 2022)
According to MinorityHealth.hhs.gov:
In 2019, non-Hispanic blacks were twice as likely as non-Hispanic whites to die from DIABETES.
In 2018, African American adults were 60% more likely than non-Hispanic white adults to be diagnosed with DIABETES by a physician.
